Flooding misery to end
Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil has welcomed new investment that could end the flooding misery in Inverkip.
Mr McNeil has led the calls for funds to be diverted to the village, which was regularly swamped during wet weather.
He is delighted that Scottish Water is about to start a £280,000 flood alleviation scheme that they hope to have completed in June.
It is designed to address flooding incidents experienced at properties in the area and the external flooding of Main Street, which has led to the internal flooding.
The investment will remove four properties in the Main Street area from Scottish Water’s list of properties at risk of flooding.
Mr McNeil said: "I am delighted that Scottish Water has responded to the requests and lobbying and have found this amount of money to allow the work to go ahead.
“The council and its partners have acted swiftly to get this vital work going and I am sure my happiness that this work is finally happening will be shared by the Inverkip community.
"While there are bound to some some disruptions, I am sure everyone will agree this is a price worth paying to resolve a long standing issue."
Mr Paul Maxwell, Scottish Water’s regional manager, said: “Main Street is at the heart of the Inverkip community so we are committed to tackling this issue and sure that Scottish Water’s investment will be welcomed by all customers in the area.”
