MSP bids fond farewell to QE2

Greenock MSP has abid a fond farewell to the Queen Elizabeth II on its last visit to the Clyde.

Mr McNeil was invited to a bon voyage dinner with the captain and other guests before the ship set sail on the river for the last time.

The MSP has warm memories of the ship and admits he is sad to see it go given the affinity it holds within the area.

Duncan McNeil said: "I awaited the ship’s arrival with great anticipation on Sunday but also tinged with sadness knowing this will be the last visit.

"It has always had such a strong connection locally with people, many of which worked on her during the build while she was in Inch Green dry dock.

"While I never personally worked on her, I remember the huge interest in her at the time, so much so that raffles were held in the shipyards for the chance to take a tour.

"I was lucky enough to win two tickets and gave them to my mother and father so I have that personal connection with the ship like many others from the area.

"I am sure this beautiful ship will be given a great welcome and a fond farewell during its time back in Greenock."
