MSP meets youth candidates
Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil took the hot seat this week when he met a possible new generation of politicians at the weekend.
Mr McNeil met with local candidates for the Scottish Youth Parliament at a training event in Greenock.
Inverclyde Council had organised a Q and A session with the Inverclyde MSP so they could learn more about the role of an elected representative.
They grilled him on a variety of subjects, from voting at 16 to challenging negative stereotypes of young people.
The MSP said: “I was very impressed by all the candidates and enjoyed hearing their challenging views of the different subjects
“All parties have a challenge in engaging young people in politics and I believe the Scottish Youth Parliament is an excellent way of doing this.
“Given the level of enthusiasm and knowledge I encountered on Saturday from the candidates, I am sure Inverclyde will be well represented when the three MSYPs are elected next month.”
The candidates will now enter a month-long campaign period for candidates before polling stations open between November 30th and December 4th when every 14 to 25 year old who lives in Inverclyde will elect three MSYPs.
