Standing up to Antisocial Behaviour
As anyone who’s ever had the
misfortune to experience it knows, the daily grind of antisocial behaviour wears
you down.
It
demoralises communities to such an extent that they end up feeling there’s
nothing they can do about it; that things will never change.
And, for so long as the first view persists, the second will remain a
self-fulfilling prophecy.
But,
as the Standing Up to Antisocial Behaviour Awards 2006 aim to show, individuals
and local groups can make a real difference.
The
awards want to find and highlight the outstanding individuals, young people,
local groups and projects and workers who go above and beyond the call of duty
in the fight against antisocial behaviour.
As
well as the awards themselves, winners will also scoop up to £5,000 to spend on
an activity to stop antisocial behaviour in their area.
In
my day-to-day work as an MSP, I meet a range of people who’ve said enough is
enough and who’re fighting to take their communities back.
They deserve public recognition for this work - not as an exercise in
self-congratulatory back-slapping, but in a bid to highlight what works and give
others the confidence to take a stand.
So,
if there’s someone in your street, or a group at, for example, your community
centre, whose work has made a difference, why not show your support by
nominating them for the award?
Nominations
must be in by 30th June and the form is now available online at:
