Report to the People
6th November 2006
Say
YES to Progress
If
you’re a Council tenant, you’ll receive your ballot paper for the stock
transfer vote this week.
I’ve
lost count of the number of constituents who come to me because they can’t get
the right type of house in the area they want or because they can’t get a
simple repair done.
But,
despite all these problems, some are still asking questions about how they
should vote.
If
you say ‘yes’ to the transfer, you’ll be saying yes to a £140 million
investment in our housing. This
means sweeping away unpopular, run-down houses and building new, quality homes
where people want to live. Homes
will be modernised and upgraded; your Right to Buy will be safeguarded and
you’ll have a bigger say and more rights.
A
vote against, however, will see us losing out on this investment and your rent
almost doubling in 8 years. More
pensioners may also be unnecessarily moved into residential care as the Council
won’t be able to afford the adaptations they need to remain at home.
Inverclyde
Council knows it can’t match the very good deal on offer from River Clyde
Homes, which is why councillors unanimously back the transfer.
And David Cairns MP and I wouldn’t be recommending the package to you
if we didn’t believe it was in your best interests.
If
you think we deserve the same housing investment as Glasgow and Dunoon; if you
want new houses, home improvements, or to stay in your own home long into your
retirement, then you must vote for it.
