A78 review underway

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil has called on Transport Scotland to involve the Inverkip community in the improvement of the A78 trunk road.

Following representations by the MSP, Transport Scotland has agreed to review both the Inverkip junctions and the Bankfoot roundabout.

A three-month study is being carried out at the north, south and marina junctions to assess traffic flow, including reviewing the prevailing speed limit and improve junction safety.

And the findings of a safety audit is currently being scrutinised with a view to making Bankfoot safer.

Mr McNeil has written to Transport Scotland to ensure they consult and communicate effectively with the community during the review process.

He said: “People in the Inverkip area are obviously anxious to know how this is developing and I believe it is incumbent on Transport Scotland to ensure they are involved right through this process.

“While I am delighted that they have agreed to look into these areas of concern, we must keep up the pressure to ensure that action is taken.

“I am also pleased that, while the road survey is to take place partly during school holidays, it will be based on normal traffic flows on the A78.

“Now that we have engaged Transport Scotland to look into these very real safety concerns, it is important that they now deliver the improvements we are looking for.”
