Training Day Gives Local Groups Fairer Chance to Hit Lotto Jackpot
Local community groups are set to receive help in securing their fair share of lottery funding, thanks a to a Big Lottery Fund training day being held in Greenock.

The event, which is being hosted in Greenock’s Wellpark Mid Kirk on Monday 19th May, features workshops on “How to make a good application” and will offer groups the chance to discuss their project idea one-to-one with a Big Lottery representative.

The day has been facilitated by MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, who is concerned that local groups are not getting their fair share of grants.

He said:

“When we put our Lottery on, we do so in the belief that part of our money is going to good causes across the country.  We put our pound on the same as everyone else in the UK, but we don’t seem to be getting the same level of awards.  I sometimes wonder whether lottery grants go to the most deserving, or those best at filling in the forms.

“I raised these concerns with the Big Lottery Fund and am delighted that they have agreed to come down to Greenock and give our local groups a helping hand in redressing the balance.

“The event will show representatives from community groups how to make their case effectively, explaining what lottery bosses look for when assessing an application.

“I would therefore urge local groups who have either made an application to Investing in Communities, or who have an idea for a project, to come down and take advantage of this expert advice on how to make a winning bid.”

Groups throughout Inverclyde who have a project idea, or who are currently in the process of applying through the “Investing in Communities” programme, are invited to attend the training day and find out what Big Lottery Fund bosses look for when assessing an application.

The “How to make a good application” workshop runs from 10am and 11am, repeated between 3pm and 4pm.

To book a place at one of the workshop sessions, or a one-to-one appointment, local groups should call the Big Lottery Fund on 0870 240 2391.  To see if their project fits into Investing in Communities, groups can email: enquiries.scotland@biglotteryfund.org.uk
