McNeil Backs Against Betting Shop Violence
The Starting Price on those who abuse betting shop workers is a £500 fine, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, warned today.

Mr McNeil was at Ladbrokes in West Blackhall Street to back the campaign against betting shop violence, which is being run by the staff’s trade union, Community.

Mr McNeil said:

“Sadly, assaults and abuse of betting shop staff are on the increase, as are violent betting shop robberies.  No-one should go to work under the constant threat of violence.

“The campaign by betting shop workers’ union, Community, gives bookmakers the chance to get involved and make real moves to challenge this behaviour.

“I am backing the motion tabled by my colleague, John Park MSP, which highlights the campaign and have written to the Chief Executives of the leading bookmakers with shops in my constituency, urging them to add their weight to the campaign.

“As well as making it clear that the companies will simply not tolerate violent behaviour in their shops, they can also work to better support workers who are subject to an attack.”
