National Semi had employed as much as 450 people at its Greenock site but was forced to make redundancies during a downturn int he market.

Duncan McNeil MSP said: “In these difficult times, it is gratifying to hear Mr Macleod’s commitment to Inverclyde, particularly when we are trying to attract other businesses to the area.

“It is great to hear things are stabilising at National Semi and they are heading in the right direction by boosting the workforce.

“While it would be wrong to be complacent about jobs in the area, this news on the back of the TSC announcement is a very positive sign for the area and I look forward to the future success of the company in Greenock.”
