Waverley memorial

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil joined Wemyss Bay enthusiasts to remember the heroic actions of the Waverley.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk landings, the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station commissioned Ian Welsh, of Inverclyde Council Parks and Gardens, to produce a floral crest for a plant box on the walkway to the ferry.

The local MSP was there for the unveiling this week, along with Calmac and Scotrail

Duncan McNeil, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, said: "The floral crest is a fitting tribute to a much-loved ship and reminder to future generations of the fascintaing part she played on that heroic day at Dunkirk.

"It also works as another attraction at this stunning Victorian station which this area is rightly proud of and these volunteers have did a great job of ensuring its preservation.

"It was great to spend time with these enthusiastic and committed people on this special day."
