Case for the workers

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil will meet with T-Mobile bosses later this month following the news that they have agreed a merger with Orange.

The new company will be the biggest mobile phone company in the UK if the merger plans are given the green light by the regulatory authorities.

The company employs hundreds of workers at its contact centre in Greenock and the MSP will make the case for those workers when he meets with the managing director on November 23rd.

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil said: "Given the ink is barely dry on this deal, we are still unsure as to how this merger will impact on T-Mobile’s base in Greenock.

"But we do know that the motivated and skilled workforce there, with their vast experience in dealing with high-end call centre services, will be an asset to the any new company that is formed.

"As I understand it, the two companies have just one call centre between them in Scotland and it is in everyone's interests to keep it open here in Greenock.

"I look forward to making these points when I meet T-Mobile managing director Richard Moat later this month."
