Sporting greats discuss Committee’s community sport report

Sporting greats Kenny Dalglish and Sir Geoff Hurst today met with Convener of the Health and Sport Committee Duncan McNeil MSP to discuss their recent report into the effectiveness of community sport ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

Convener of the Health and Sport Committee Duncan McNeil MSP said:

“I was delighted to be able to meet with two giants of the sporting world, Kenny Dalglish and Sir Geoff Hurst. Sport in Scotland is at the moment under the spotlight and the Committee’s inquiry into the effectiveness of community sport shone a light on key issues that we need to develop in order to capture the legacy of the games.

“Issues like making sure we have well supported and motivated workforce, facilities that are accessible and of a good standard and vibrant local clubs that are imbedded in their community.

“The Scottish Government has today written to the Committee with their response to the report, emphasising that we can’t be complacent given the magnitude of the task ahead. This is a sentiment I agree with and hope the Committee’s report has played a small part in ensuring these issues are addressed.
