Waterloo Road update

HIT drama show Waterloo Road is going from strength to strength at its Greenock base, an MSP said today.

Duncan McNeil visited the BBC show's set in the former Greenock Academy, having been instrumental in bringing the programme to Greenock when its makers, Shed Productions, decided to move it north to Scotland.

Mr McNeil called at the set to meet the production firm's Margaret Scott and had a look around.

He said: "I had a terrific tour of the facility seeing behind the scenes.

"The finished show appears seamless, but a lot of work goes on to make it come together.

"Since the arrival at the old Greenock Academy building, it has come a long way, creating jobs, boosting the economy and providing opportunities for the young people involved in performing arts locally."

MSP Mr McNeil says he has held discussions with Scottish Enterprise and Riverside Inverclyde bosses to explore the continued development of the arts locally, through facilities like the £10m Beacon Arts Centre and creative ventures like Rig Arts.

He said: "We want to build on our successes."
