Train of Thought

If you’re a commuter, how long do you spend sitting idle in queues of traffic over, say, the course of a week?

Next time you’re stuck queuing for the privilege of getting out of a junction, though, why not put the otherwise wasted time to good use?  Get your mind working on an answer to the question, “What would make me take the train, rather than the car?”.

This is not an invitation to indulge in a spot of daydreaming, your answers could help make a real difference.  Because, as you may have read in the press last week, Scottish Ministers have now inherited new powers to determine how the railways in Scotland are run.  Not only is this good news for the redevelopment of Gourock - the ability to make all the key players in the rail industry work together for the public’s benefit could make this ambitious transport interchange project a reality - it gives Holyrood the chance to make the rail network meet our needs.

What this means in practice, however, is up for debate - and the Executive wants to know what you want to see as the main priorities for the railways.  What do existing and potential customers want?  Are there specific changes you would like to see to the rail network or services?  And what would it take to get you off the road and on the rails?
