Volunteer Nominations
One of the advantages of the
parliamentary recess is that you have a chance to catch up on what you miss when
in Holyrood.
Not,
before anyone says it, a swift 18 holes of an afternoon, but things like seeing
firsthand some of the good work being done in our community.
Last Thursday, for example, I was able to attend the Inverclyde Advocacy
Service’s AGM and, on Saturday, an Oak Tree Housing Association’s tenant
conference.
Both
of these organisations are doing their bit to improve the lives of those they
serve. But the full-time
professionals who run these services couldn’t do it without their dedicated
volunteers.
Indeed,
were it not for Inverclyde’s army of volunteers, we would be without many
valuable services.
These
volunteers seek neither material reward nor public plaudits, but it’s
important that we let them know their good work doesn’t go unnoticed.
That’s why I am encouraging you to nominate what you think is
Inverclyde’s premier voluntary organisation for the Queen’s Award for
Voluntary Service.
This
prestigious award is bestowed by HM The Queen for outstanding achievement by
voluntary groups who regularly devote their time to helping others and improving
their quality of life. So, if
there’s one particular volunteer-run service which has made a real difference
to you or your family, why not help get them the recognition they deserve?
Nominations close on 30th September and copies of the official nomination form are available from my constituency office (791820) or online at: www.queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk
