McNeil Comments on
Licensing Bill
Commenting on today’s publication of
the Licensing (Scotland) Bill, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan
McNeil, said:
“Quite apart from the
serious health effects, binge drinking is a major headache for residents, the
police and others in our town and city centres. I’m therefore pleased that the Bill looks set to take
action against irresponsible drink promotions.
“All the blame, however,
cannot be laid at the door of the licensed trade. We must also ask why too many people seem determined to drink
to excess, whether at happy hour or regular prices. Any reforms, therefore, must be complemented by our work to
educate people about the health and social dangers of binge drinking.”
