McNeil Welcomes A8 Safety Boost
The A8 is set to become safer with
the confirmation by Transport Minister, Lewis Macdonald, that the
lighting on sections of the road through Greenock is to be
upgraded.
The news has been welcomed by MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, who had raised the issue with the Minister following representations from a number of constituents.
Two sections of the road, at East Hamilton Street and the Bullring Roundabout, will have their lights upgraded before next spring.
Mr McNeil said:
"Poor lighting is not just bad for road safety, its bad for personal safety. Badly lit areas are crime magnets.
"So, when a number of constituents came to me concerned about the quality of street lighting on certain stretches of the A8, I put their points to the Minister. I am glad that the Minister has now confirmed that the lighting in these areas is to be improved."
Lighting defects on trunk roads (the A8 and
A78) should be reported to the maintenance company, Amey Highways
Ltd. on 0800 028 1414. Defects on local roads should be reported
to Inverclyde Council Roads Department on 01475 714 800.
