Argyll and Clyde’s controversial Clinical Strategy will be “Exhibit A for
the prosecution” in the
Scottish Parliament Health Committee’s major Inquiry into workforce planning
in the health service.
MSP
for Greenock and Inverclyde and Health Committee member, Duncan McNeil, says the
document starkly highlights the deep-rooted problems facing the NHS.
“Whatever
else you can say about the Board's recently published Clinical Strategy, it is
certainly a long-overdue and brutally honest examination of the workforce
planning difficulties facing the NHS,” he said.
“The issues raised in the first two chapters in particular must be
examined by the Committee and then put to the Minister, his officials, the Royal
Colleges, the professionals and everyone else who runs our NHS.”
He
continued:
“I
have therefore made representations to the Health Board, asking that they submit
the document to the Inquiry, so that it can be incorporated into the official
body of evidence. They have, to
their credit, responded positively, assuring me that particular reference to
these issues will be made in their submission.”
