McNeil Condemns Nuclear Waste of Police Time
Condemning the fact that police officers are being taken off Greenock and Inverclyde’s streets to police the Faslane 365 demonstration, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“Clearly, legitimate protest and dissent is a welcome and essential part of the political process in any democracy.  But the spectacle of elected representatives abusing police time and resources just for the sake of a photo opportunity will outrage the vast majority of my decent, law-abiding constituents.

“These politicians have the cheek to call for more police on the beat while at the same time indulging in these expensive and disruptive stunts which take officers off our streets, waste police time and put my constituents and others at risk.   They should apologise to every single man, woman and child who fell victim to a crime while they were busy trying to get their picture in the paper.

“I have tabled questions to the Executive, asking exactly how much this publicity stunt cost the taxpayer.  I have also written to the local Divisional Commander, asking how many officers he was – and still is – being forced to remove from our community to police these protests as Faslane.”
