McNeil Backs National
Transplant Week
MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde,
Duncan McNeil, is backing National Transplant Week, urging his
constituents to join him in "carrying a card."
Speaking after representatives from the Scottish Transplant Co-ordinators Network met with staff at T-Mobile, Main Street, Greenock, to discuss promoting organ donation in the workplace, Mr McNeil said:
"Having carried a card for over a decade now, I am very pleased to back National Transplant Week and the great work done by the Scottish Transplant Co-ordinators Network.
"Sadly, Scotlands donor registration rate of 17% is not something of which we can be proud. If we are to drive this figure up, we need to raise awareness both of the importance of organ donation and of how you can register as a donor.
"That is why it is good to see efforts being made to help major employers, such as T-Mobile, make it easier for their workforce to carry a lifesaving card."
National Transplant Week runs from 7th to 14th July.
The National Kidney Research Fund and the
Scottish Transplant Co-ordinators Network are running a major
publicity campaign to promote the organ donor card and the NHS
Organ Donor Register during the week.
