East
End Safety Plans Get Moving
The bid to create an East End Safety
Initiative is moving forward, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil,
has said.
Cloch Housing Association has
declared itself ready to play an active part in the project and talks are taking
place to map out the initiative’s plan of action.
Once this is agreed, Cloch has pledged to investigate, in all probability
with bodies such as Communities Scotland and Inverclyde Council, what funding
could be obtained for the initiative.
At the same time, senior
Inverclyde Council officials are also on board and are making moves to use
antisocial behaviour money from the Scottish Executive to firm up plans for a
Community Safety Partnership in the East End.
Mr McNeil, who brought the
people living, working and doing business in the East End together at an initial
meeting in Craigend Resource Centre on 23rd August, says it is in
everyone’s interest to cut crime and make the area safer:
“Local residents and
businesses have a vested interest in making the East End a safer place to live
and work. Not only would it improve
people’s quality of life, companies could invest in growing their business,
rather than expensive security equipment and insurance premiums.
“I’m heartened by the
enthusiasm for this project in the East End.
And now, with the big players also coming on board, I am confident that
we can start moving forward and making it happen.”
