McNeil Welcomes Transco Inquiry into Gourock Roads Misery
MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has welcomed Transco’s decision to launch an inquiry into the traffic chaos being inflicted on Gourock as a result of the gas infrastructure company’s stalled roadworks.

Transco launched the probe after Mr McNeil expressed the concern of residents in Larkfield Road, Hilltop Road and George Road area that, despite the works being in their third month, little or no activity is taking place.

Speaking to the Greenock Telegraph, Mr McNeil said:

"Following representations made to me by a number of local residents, I raised their concerns with Transco. I left the company in no doubt of the frustration of both commuters who are subject to severe traffic congestion during rush hours and local residents who find it difficult just to go about their daily business.

"My constituents are not unreasonable people and appreciate the need for essential maintenance work. They do, however, question why, with the hole in the road now into its third month, little or no activity is taking place around it.

"I am glad that Transco has undertaken to investigate this deeply unsatisfactory situation and have the manager in charge report back to me directly. I will read the report carefully and will ensure that it is widely circulated to the people in the area.

"In the meantime, I am pleased that progress is being made on the ground and that the disruption has been diminished."

Mr McNeil has also confirmed that he has asked Transco to outline how they propose to keep the inconvenience caused by any such future works to an absolute minimum, saying:

"I believe that Transco and its contractors are committed to high standards of customer service and I will be interested to learn how they propose to ensure that a situation such as this – where the amount of disruption caused seems inversely proportional to the amount of work done – does not happen again."
