Child Poverty tops the Agenda
As part of his commitment to discuss
the key issues which come under his Committee’s remit with the main players in
the field, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, will welcome two
leading children’s charities to Greenock this week to debate tackling child
poverty.
The
Convener of Holyrood’s Local Government and Communities Committee will be
joined by senior representatives from Save the Children and the Child Poverty
Action Group, Committee Clerks and a Parliament research specialist to discuss
on which issues the Committee should focus in the coming parliamentary session.
Looking
forward to the meeting, Mr McNeil said:

month I said in my Tele column that I
would spend some time over the summer examining the key issues and talking to
those with particular insights into them. I am therefore meeting a range of organisations’
representatives in the near future and I will be particularly interested to get
Save the Children’s and the Child Poverty Action Group’s perspectives.
“They’ll
obviously have plenty of ideas about what I should make the Committee’s
priority, but I also have my own strong views and I’m looking forward to a
lively, informed exchange.”
The
meeting will take place in Mr McNeil’s constituency office at 20 Union Street,
Greenock, on Thursday 16th August at 10:15.
In addition to Mr McNeil, meeting attendees comprise:
