Cllr Blair on the Run, But he Cannot Hide Report’s Verdict
Commenting on a statement issued yesterday by Leader of Inverclyde Council, Cllr Alan Blair, on the subject of Inverclyde School Buildings, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, today said:

“Cllr Blair might be on the run, but he can’t hide from the fact that independent experts – no less than HM Inspectorate of Education themselves – have absolutely slated his administration’s ‘unsatisfactory’ performance.

“He can’t hide from the Scottish school inspectors’ confirmation that pupils are already suffering as a result of the shambles to which his leadership has given rise.  He can’t hide the fact that they have told him to think again, or the questions they raise ‘over the feasibility’ of the funding options for his so-called ‘replacement’ plans.  He can no longer arrogantly dismiss the concerns which head teachers and parents have been raising since last summer.

“He has nowhere to hide.  So, rather than actually face up to his responsibilities and sort his mess out, he resorts to rambling bluster and clumsy diversionary tactics.  Meanwhile, of course, our children continue to be held back by crumbling schools –children who would, as the Inspectorate makes clear, all have been ‘educated in either a new or a refurbished school building’ under the previous administration’s ‘ambitious’ and ‘well-founded’ plans.  The very plans which he tore up in such a cavalier fashion.

“No amount of personal criticism will stop me doing what I was elected to do – working to get Inverclyde its fair share of public investment.  Investment which this administration seems determined to deny us.”
