McNeil Concerned at First Minister’s
Cancer Scare Complacency
Commenting after raising the breast
cancer scare at Inverclyde Royal Hospital with First Minister, Alex Salmond, at
First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament today, MSP for Greenock
and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:
“I
demanded that the First Minister urgently institutes a full inquiry, led by the
Health Secretary, into the cancer test scare at the IRH. His response was a
little complacent, to say the least.
“He
said nothing about the scope or the detail of the review he suggests should be
carried out by NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.
“What
we need, once the women affected have been seen by a specialist, is a review to
find out is what went wrong with the system. Only by identifying the problems and correcting them will we
prevent a similar scandal from recurring.”
