“Every Ounce” of Health Board Capacity Must be Focussed on Reassuring Women – McNeil
Commenting on today’s announcement from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde that the cases of a number of women who had presented for breast cancer tests at Inverclyde Royal Hospital were to be re-examined, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“This must be a desperately worrying time for the women affected and for their families.  They have to be uppermost in our minds.

“The first priority must be reassuring every woman involved as quickly as possible and every ounce of capacity in the entire NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area must be focussed on this.

“I am also demanding a full inquiry led by the new Health Secretary into what has gone wrong here and how it will be prevented from happening again.  I also expect her assurance that any solution will be based on improving the quality of services at the IRH, not removing them.”
