Put Prejudice Behind You, Narrow-minded Nationalists Told
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has dismissed as “narrow-minded nonsense”, the SNP’s refusal to support London’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

He said:

“At a time when our NHS is facing serious challenges, when Scottish companies are having to work harder than ever to compete in the global marketplace and when more still needs to be done to crack down on crime, the SNP are arguing about where the Olympics should be.

“No wonder no-one takes them seriously.

“They are now so riven with internal conflict, the only thing on which they can comment is the only thing on which they agree – that they don’t like London.  Apart, of course, from Alex Salmond, who seems quite at home there.”

He continued:

“If holding the Olympic Games in Britain would be good for Greenock and Inverclyde, good for Scotland and good for Britain, then I’m all in favour.  I know that the First Minister, sportscotland and our new Sports Minister are of the view that we stand to benefit – and I’m sure they will make that case so effectively that even the most narrow-minded Nationalist will be able to put their prejudice behind them, if just this once.”
