Citylink to Investigate Free Travel Discrimination Claims
MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has welcomed Citylink’s willingness to investigate claims of discrimination against passengers taking advantage of the new free local bus travel scheme.

The move comes after Mr McNeil made representations to the company after a number of his constituents contacted him, alleging they were told by Citylink drivers to stand aside in favour of paying passengers.

He said:

"Free local bus travel is proving extremely popular and has, on the whole, been a great success. I do not want it to fall victim to that success and so am naturally concerned at the nature of the allegations made to me by my constituents.

"That is why I made representations to Citylink who, I am glad to say, have confirmed that this sort of discrimination is not company policy. Managing Director, Neil Wood, has assured me that, in accordance with their longstanding procedures, only passengers with pre-booked and pre-purchased tickets should be given priority treatment. All other passengers, whether they are paying or not, should be treated equally.

"But, the reports which are reaching me suggest that this is not clearly understood by their drivers.

"I am glad, therefore, that Mr Wood has confirmed that he is happy to investigate any individual case and find out what went wrong. I will certainly press him to do so."
