Comments on AGS Report
Commenting
on the Auditor General for Scotland’s report on NHS finances, MSP for Greenock
and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, today said:
“Financial
performance in Argyll and Clyde has been a problem for some time.
Indeed, the Minister was required to intervene in September 2002, replace
the management team and establish a single trust board.
“This
produced a financial recovery plan which aims to return to financial balance by
2007 – 2008.
“The
Auditor General’s report notes the comprehensive nature of this plan – the
most robust yet – and considers the establishment of a multi-disciplinary
recovery group within Argyll and Clyde as a significant development.
“Argyll
and Clyde will receive £555 million of the £8.6 billion which is being
invested in NHSScotland in 2004 / 2005. This
is a record amount and Argyll and Clyde have a responsibility to manage it
properly. Accordingly, if any
adjustments in priorities are required, I expect them to be delivered without
impacting on front line patient care.”
