Health Board Can’t Ignore Experts - McNeil
Fears are growing that NHS Argyll and Clyde is going to throw out the Independent Scrutiny Panel’s recommendation that the Community Midwife Unit (CMU) at Inverclyde Royal Hospital be spared.

MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, says the Board has to take the expert panel’s findings seriously when it meets tomorrow (18th December 2007) and look again at its policy of closing the CMU.

He told the Telegraph:

“As I said when the panel published its findings, their recommendation to keep the CMU open for another three years while efforts are made to increase usage makes perfect sense.

“The dust has barely settled after the last maternity reorganisation and the current system needs time to bed in before any decision is taken.

“The Health Board has to show that it is taking the panel’s report seriously, rather than arrogantly dismissing it out of hand.

“That is exactly how the old Argyll and Clyde board behaved and look what happened to them.”
