Cracking Crime 24/7
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has joined together with Justice Minister, Cathy Jamieson, to mark the launch of a new, improved 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Crimestoppers service.Duncan McNeil MSP and Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Justice launching the 24 hour Crimestoppers line

For over a decade, the 0800 555 111 Crimestoppers line has been used by local people who want to report criminals in their communities.  Now, thanks to new technology, the service is able to handle calls round-the-clock.

Mr McNeil hopes that the new 24/7 service will lead to even more criminals being brought to justice.

“This new 24 hour hotline means that people living in our community can play an even bigger part in helping to clear up crime in their area,” he said.

“You can make a difference by calling Crimestoppers and speaking to an experienced police officer any time of day or night.  Your call is free, you do not need to give your name and your call will not be recorded.  You may even receive a reward.”

Justice Minister, Cathy Jamieson added:

“Thanks to Crimestoppers, all types of criminal activity from vandalism to murder have been brought to justice.  People want to be safe and feel safe, but it’s not always easy to report a crime or criminals.  The new 24 hour line means that when people have the courage to report a criminal, they can speak to someone any time of the day.

“Crimestoppers gives local people the power to tackle crime.  With the help of the people of Greenock and Inverclyde, criminals will find themselves with nowhere to hide.”
