Alexander to See Inverclyde Open for Business
Minister for Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning, Wendy Alexander, will see that Inverclyde is open for business this holiday Monday.

She has been invited to the area by MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, who, together with Parliamentary, council and business colleagues, will discuss a number of the key issues facing the local economy with her.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Mr McNeil told the Telegraph:

"I invited the Minister to visit Greenock and Inverclyde a number of months ago, at the time when the electronics industry in Scotland was suffering a marked downturn. As our economy is very dependent on electronics manufacturing, this issue – and the related issue of how we broaden and strengthen our economic base – have particular relevance.

"The redevelopment of the Gourock waterfront and the regeneration of the brown-field sites which litter either side of the A8 corridor will also feature strongly in our discussions."

The meeting will take place on Monday 22nd April at 11:30 in the Municipal Buildings, Clyde Square, Greenock.

Attendees comprise the constituency MPs and MSPs who represent the Inverclyde Council area, Duncan McNeil MSP and David Cairns MP (Greenock and Inverclyde) and Trish Godman MSP and Jim Sheridan MP (West Renfrewshire); the leader of Inverclyde Council, Cllr Robert Jackson; Vice President, National Semiconductors UK Ltd., Gerry Edwards; and officials from Inverclyde Council.
