Executive Officials Dispatched to Gourock
Development Crunch Talks
Scottish Executive officials are being
dispatched to a key summit on the future of the Gourock transport interchange,
it has been revealed.
Following
representations from MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, Transport
Minister, Tavish Scott, has agreed to send officials to represent him when the
project’s key players gather for crunch talks in Glasgow next month.
In
a letter to Mr McNeil, the Minister welcomes the meeting and assures him that,
“the Executive remains keen to see this project delivered.”
Mr
McNeil, who had also invited the Minister to attend, welcomed the Executive’s
continued enthusiasm for the major project.
He
said:
“While
I am a little disappointed that the Minister will not be there in person, I am
pleased that he confirms that the Executive remains committed to this project.
It’s a positive sign that the Minister’s officials will be attending
next month’s summit in Glasgow on his behalf.
“The
creation of this transport interchange and the consequent regeneration of the
waterfront is crucial for Gourock’s future.
It’s too important to be obstructed by bickering and self-interest.”
The
meeting, aimed at breaking the current deadlock, will take place on Friday 9th
September 2005 in Consort House, Glasgow. It
will bring together key players in the project.
