Safer
Streets on Agenda with Top Cop
Safer
streets in Inverclyde will be top of the agenda when Greenock and Inverclyde’s
MSP, Duncan McNeil and MP, David Cairns meet Chief Constable of Strathclyde
Police, William Rae, tomorrow.
The
meeting, which is taking place at Pitt Street Police Station, Glasgow, has been
called to discuss how local police react to and work to prevent crime and
antisocial behaviour in the Inverclyde area.
Speaking
ahead of the meeting, Mr McNeil said:
“By
far the biggest issues in my mail bag and at my surgeries are crime and
antisocial behaviour.
“Sadly,
local people tell me that they feel that the police presence in our community
does not address their concerns effectively.
I therefore want to find out why this is the case and hope to discuss the
issue of police deployment in the area.
“I
also want to find out whether there is anything which we as politicians can do
to help the police do their job more effectively.
Is there red tape we can cut? Are
there reforms to the criminal law which would help?
How can we work together to meet our shared aim of a law and order system
which is on the side of decent, hardworking people?”
