Inverclyde to get £121,000 in Rural Transport Investment

MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has welcomed today's announcement by Transport Minister, Sarah Boyack that rural transport in Inverclyde is to receive a £121,000 investment boost.

The cash will go direct to Inverclyde Council as a Grant Allocation - which allows the authority to spend the money on local priorities.

Welcoming the announcement, Mr McNeil said:

"An effective transport system is vital in tackling social exclusion. There is no point in providing a range of quality local amenities if people do not have access to them.

"This does not only mean making sure people have decent bus services in and around the town. It is also important to consider those who live in more outlying areas such as Wemyss Bay and Inverkip.

"No matter where you live, students still need to get to and from college. Young mothers still need to take their children to nursery or the health centre. And pensioners still need to collect their pension.

"Combined with measures such as the recently passed Transport Bill, this investment is another step towards ensuring that everyone in Greenock & Inverclyde has access to affordable, reliable, convenient travel."
