Safer Inverclyde Message from Top Cop
Head of the Strathclyde Police Violence
Reduction Unit, Detective Chief Superintendent John Carnochan, will spell out to
local residents how his dedicated team is tackling violent crime in communities
such as Inverclyde.
Local people
concerned about violent crime in the area will join the police, housing bosses,
councillors, antisocial behaviour officials and others, at a meeting tonight,
which has been called by MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil.
Speaking
ahead of the meeting, Mr McNeil said:
“In
response to demands from communities like ours, Strathclyde Police set up the
dedicated Violence Reduction Unit. This
looks at tackling violence in communities root and branch.
“I am
delighted that its head, Detective Chief Superintendent John Carnochan himself,
is coming to Greenock to explain more about what they are doing to crack down on
violent behaviour. He will also,
I’m sure, be keen to hear what action local people want to being taken.”
Det. Chief
Superintendent Carnochan’s appearance in Greenock comes before a major
conference on tackling violence, to be held on 27th March 2006 in
Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.
The
conference, which will bring together more than 300 delegates from across
Scotland, will kick-start a year-long Safer Scotland campaign aimed at tackling
violent behaviour. The campaign is backed by the Scottish Executive and the
Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS).
