Better
Housing – Minister in Greenock to Check on Progress
Could
better co-operation on the ground speed up the much needed modernisation of
Inverclyde’s housing? That’s
the question Communities Minister, Margaret Curran, will be asking key figures
on her visit to Greenock next Monday (26th January 2004).
The
Minister’s visit follows her meeting last Thursday with MSP for Greenock and
Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, at which she accepted his invitation to come and see
the challenges the area faces for herself.
Speaking
to the Telegraph, Mr McNeil said he was hopeful that the visit would help
get things moving:
“I
met with the Minister last week to impress upon her the urgent need for
action,” he said.
“Recent
disagreements over proposals to modernise housing have drawn out what is already
a lengthy process. Our
housing stock is in urgent need of investment and the Scottish Parliament has
money to invest. If we can get our
act together and make a serious, successful bid for this cash, we could make a
real difference to the lives of many in our community.
“I believe that the
Minister and the Executive do want to help – and I hope we can convince her
that any investment would be well spent.”
