McNeil
Welcomes Provost to Holyrood
Provost Ciano Rebecchi swapped the
marble and stone of the municipal buildings for the glass and granite of
Holyrood today, as he was welcomed to the Scottish Parliament by MSP for
Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil.
Mr McNeil said he wanted to
acknowledge the contribution which Provost Rebecchi has made to Inverclyde
during his many years of public service and his tenure as Provost.
Mr McNeil said:
“Regardless of our
differing political colours, Ciano and I have worked well together in the past
on a number of issues – cracking down on antisocial behaviour in his area and,
most notably, the fight to safeguard local health services.
In his time as Provost, he has been an ambassador for Inverclyde and has
been prepared to work with all of those who have Inverclyde’s interests at
heart.”
Provost Rebecchi added:
“It was great to see the
parliament at work and to meet ministers and MSPs. It’s well worth a visit and I would encourage people across
Inverclyde to go and see it for themselves.
It’s entirely different from how you see it on the television.”
After Mr McNeil had taken
Provost Rebecchi, who took part in Holyrood’s official opening ceremony in
October 2004 and his wife, Diane, on a behind-the-scenes tour of the new
Scottish Parliament building, they saw the Parliament in action as they watched
the afternoon’s proceedings from the Chamber’s VIP gallery.
