Prof
Kerr and Health Minister Set to Answer MSPs on NHS Reform
Professor
David Kerr is set to be quizzed by MSPs on the progress being made by his
Advisory Group on a National Framework for NHS Service Change, it has been
revealed.
The
Glasgow-born Oxford don will be joined by Health Minister, Andy Kerr, who is
preparing to invite all MSPs to a special meeting at the Scottish Parliament,
arranged under the auspices of the Health Committee.
The
meeting, which the Minister is known to want as soon as next month, will allow
Prof. Kerr to update MSPs on his work, before allowing MSPs to question both him
and the Health Minister.
The
move is being backed by MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde and Health Committee
member, Duncan McNeil, who said:
“When
I put the idea to him during his visit to Greenock last month, Professor Kerr
was enthusiastic about getting involved in an event such as this.
I am glad that the Minister is also keen to take part. It will be a great opportunity for MSPs of all parties to
quiz both of these important figures on the progress they are making.
“When,
one by one, services across Scotland started to come into the sights of the
centralisation wing of the NHS, I called for a proper, national debate about the
way our services are organised. Not
only has this debate begun, it is now at the top of the agenda. We have Professor Kerr’s Advisory Group, we have the Health
Committee’s major Workforce Planning Inquiry and we are in talks with the
English Speaking Union about holding public debates between leading figures on
both sides of the issue.”
