£839,000 to Open Inverclyde up for Business
MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has welcomed today’s announcement by Enterprise and Transport Minister, Iain Gray, that £839,000 is to be spent opening up more of Inverclyde’s waterfront up for business.

The cash will be invested in the A8 corridor at the eastern end of Inverclyde, giving direct access to derelict brown-field sites, leaving them ripe for redevelopment.

"Opening up prime waterfront real estate is key to our continued economic regeneration," Mr McNeil told the Telegraph.

"I am glad that Iain Gray has listened to our representations on this issue and has made this important announcement. It paves the way for more inward investment, bringing more jobs to us here in Inverclyde."

Enterprise Minister, Iain Gray, said:

"This extra money should make a real difference to the efforts to improve access to Greenock’s strategic development sites, helping make the area a more attractive business location.

"It’s important that we target this additional funding to those areas that need it most and where it can make a real difference to local projects and local regeneration. A good example is improving access to development sites in Greenock."

The development of these strategic sites will complement the strategy for promoting growth in key sectors of the local economy. They are part of a development programme that includes jobs creation, business creation, the exploitation of new business opportunities, training related activities and linkages to areas of social and economic exclusion.
