Lock Up Cons’ Union Plans and Throw Away the Key – McNeil
Plans to set up a trade union for Scotland’s prisoners – a Confederation Of Nefarious Scoundrels, or CONS for short – should be locked up and the key thrown away, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has said.

He branded the bid, made by Green MSP, Patrick Harvie, during Question Time in the Scottish Parliament today, “deeply offensive”, saying:

“Mr Harvie has already seen fit to detain the Parliament with such weighty matters as a wedding for Elton John in Alloa and Kenyan sex advice, so I suppose we shouldn’t really be surprised.

“The ravings of the more extreme fringes of our rainbow Parliament are usually good for a laugh, if little else, but this time they have gone too far.

“A trade union for murderers, rapists and drug dealers is a deeply offensive idea.  Not only is it a slap in the face for victims, their families and our communities, it is a slur on all genuine trade unions.”

During Question Time, Mr McNeil has asked Justice Minister, Cathy Jamieson, for an assurance that “murderers and drug dealers will not be allowed out of jail to attend trade union meetings across the country.”

The Minister responded that she was happy to give this assurance and underlined her total rejection of Mr Harvie’s plan.
