Massive
Investment for New Affordable Homes in Inverclyde
Communities
Minister, Rhona Brankin, today announced a record £23.5 million spending for
affordable housing in Inverclyde over the next year.
This
is an increase of 70%, compared to the funding announced at this time last year.
In
agreement with the local authority, the investment through Communities Scotland,
the Executive’s housing and regeneration agency, will enable around 100 new
homes to be built for rent or low-cost ownership in Inverclyde.
Announcing
the new funding, Communities Minister, Rhona Brankin, said:
“The
Executive is investing record sums of money through Communities Scotland to
provide more decent, warm affordable homes to meet people’s needs.
“This
funding will make a huge difference for many people in Inverclyde allowing them
to get decent homes they can afford.
“Following
the successful ballot result to transfer council-run housing to River Clyde
Homes and the benefits and investment this will bring, today’s announcement
for next year will see around 100 new homes for Inverclyde improving the lives
of may people in the area.”
MSP
for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, added:
“This is tremendous news. One key plank of our regeneration strategy is keeping young families in the area and that means, not just attracting more good jobs, but ensuring they have access to high-quality, affordable housing. This massive investment will do just that.
“And it’s just the beginning. The Executive matches the people of Inverclyde’s ambition for the area who, following last year’s tenants’ vote for stock transfer and community ownership, can look forward the sort of housing they deserve.”
Communities
Scotland’s area director for North and South Clyde, Alex Robertson, said:
“The
budget of £23.5 million this year represents a record level of funding for
Inverclyde.
“Communities
Scotland’s Inverclyde team will continue to work with Inverclyde Council and
local housing associations to identify need and get best value for money in
delivering quality homes for people across the area.”
