Funding Mismatch – Minister to Meet Council
Inverclyde’s two MSPs, Duncan McNeil and Trish Godman, have welcomed the agreement of Scottish Finance Minister, Andy Kerr, to meet with the local council to discuss the funding mismatch issue.

Following research by local government expert, Professor Arthur Midwinter, Inverclyde Council – together with several other Councils – believe its Grant Allocation from the Scottish Executive does not adequately reflect the poverty and health challenges they face.

Mr McNeil and Mrs Godman met the Minister, who is also responsible for Scotland’s public services, today to discuss how the matter can be taken forward.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr McNeil said:

"It was a very productive meeting.

"The Minister is live to this issue and has assured us that he is in regular contact with CoSLA.

"We were, though, keen for the Minister to talk directly to Inverclyde Council and I am delighted he has accepted our offer. I hope these discussions are equally constructive."

Mrs Godman said:

"As Chair of the Local Government Committee, I have dealt with Professor Midwinter’s on many occasions and have a great deal of respect for him.

"He identifies a clear issue which needs to be addressed. I am glad the Minister recognises this and is going to sit down with the Council to work towards a solution."
