Gourock Development Can’t Hit the Buffers
Commenting on today’s announcement that the new £20 million Gourock transport interchange project is finally moving forward, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“I welcome the essential, if long overdue, announcement that Gourock station is to be redeveloped.

“It is certainly a step forward.  But, given the speed at which the private sector developments further east along our waterfront are proceeding, I can understand the frustration which the people of Gourock feel at having waited so long for such an important project.

“So that Gourock isn’t left even further behind, we need to press ahead and create a momentum.  I know that the developer is ready to go with a planning application and I welcome the continued involvement of Transport Scotland to ensure the Council doesn’t let the timetable slip any more.  And we must have negotiations with Cal Mac about how we can keep its headquarters – and its jobs – in Gourock if possible and, if not, definitely in Inverclyde.  I will also be asking if, instead of setting up a new venture company to take this project forward, we can save time and cut down on red tap by using the URC.

“Given Inverclyde Council’s record, I can assure my constituents in Gourock that I will be keeping a close eye on how progress is made.  Now that the decision has been taken, I am determined that this vision will become a reality.”
