McNeil Comments on Council Best Value Report
Commenting on the Audit Scotland’s follow-up Best Value audit of Inverclyde Council, published today, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“I’m glad that some improvements have been made – although it would be hard to imagine how things could have got any worse.

“That being said, it won’t surprise anyone who’s ever had any dealings with Inverclyde Council that this progress is too slow.  It seems that the new interim Chief Executive is already be having an impact, but the leadership at every level needs to match his determination to drive forward this recovery plan.

“The Minister and our community want to see real results before long.”

The follow-up report was commissioned by the Accounts Commission after a damning Best Value Audit of Inverclyde Council was published in May.

Progress has been made following the establishment of a Recovery Group assisted by a peer support group and the local government Improvement Service, but this latest report underlines that the pace of improvement has to be stepped up.
